G'Day from AACC President,

Jackie Yuen

Dear AACC Members and Friends,

There are a couple of major events to highlight this month.

It marks the 109th anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War, landing in Gallipoli in 1915. The AACC, the Australian and New Zealand Consulates will be hosting a commemoration service on April 21. See details below.

San Francisco will be celebrating it's 2nd annual SF Climate Week during April 21-27. The climate gathering platform is to encourage dialogue and collaboration that can bridge the gap between business, political, and advocacy leaders, and help cultivate important connections that will pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable San Francisco. Numerous events will be held, including one hosted by Deep Planet and Austrade on April 22 - details below. we will also be sharing related posts across social media, highlighting initiatives of AACC members.

MODERN AWARD COMPLIANCE AUSTRALIA

Australia has a unique statutory system of modern awards that set the terms and conditions of employment and minimum pay rates for employees in certain industries and occupations.

There are currently over 120 modern awards in the system, which apply to a significant portion of Australia’s employers and employees and provide additional rights and entitlements to employees beyond the entitlements provided by the National Employment Standards. This includes minimum rates of pay, loadings, allowances, overtime rates, and rules around break times and rest time between shifts.

This session will take place on Tuesday April 30 at 9:00am PDT and will provide detailed guidance on modern award compliance for companies with operations in Australia.

SENDING MONEY TO THE U.S., AUSTRALIA, AND INTERNATIONALLY: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Here are top tips for sending money overseas:

  1. Don't use your bank. Banks typically charge hefty fees and high margins on the exchange rate.
  2. Find a reputable money transfer provider, like OFX, to get great exchange rates and swift delivery time.

  4. Use risk management tools. Forward Contracts let you lock in a rate for up to 12 months, so you can keep you budget intact.
