Hello AACC Members and Friends,
Dawn is taking some well-deserved time off this week, so I'm stepping in to bring you our latest update.
We were thrilled to see so many people at the ANZAC Day service at the Marines' Memorial Club in San Francisco. The new venue was very well received and were delighted to be joined by active and veteran service men and women who made the service so meaningful. The biggest news out of Australia recently has been the federal budget, delivered by Treasurer Jim Chalmers on May 12. Among the most discussed items are the proposed changes to Capital Gains Tax. AACC member Kelly Partners has put together an insightful summary of the key changes, which you can access below. AACC member Atlas Wealth also hosted a webinar this week to address the questions on the minds of Australian expats around the world — we'll share the recording shortly.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers delivered the 2026-27 Australian Federal Budget on Tuesday 12 May 2026. It was deliberately targeted to appeal to younger Australians, promising that the government is making bold moves to tackle affordability and to overhaul the tax system.
While detailed explanations are yet to be revealed, the budget papers have signalled that significant changes are coming that will have a wide-ranging impact. High net worth individuals, in particular, will be taking note of the sweeping tax changes, that include changes to the CGT tax regime and the taxation of trusts, loss of the use of "bucket companies", the limiting of negative gearing of residential property and the loss of the pre-CGT status of assets.
