Hello AACC Members and Friends,
Earlier this month, the AACC hosted the first Australia House at SF Tech Week, and I could not be prouder of what our community made of it. The panels brought together great people and big ideas across science, technology, and the Australia-US startup ecosystem. A huge thank you to event sponsors HSBC Innovation Banking and distillery, along with Voice Capital who helped plant the seed of the idea many months ago. Thank you as well to Mel and the AACC Board, whose work made the day possible.
This week our community was also shaken by news that Australian federal MP Helen Haines was critically injured outside her electorate office. Our thoughts are with Helen, her family, and her team. It is hard to read this without thinking about what public service asks of people, and the personal cost that can come with it. With the US midterm elections only two weeks away, many in our community are stepping up to engage. Whatever your role, I hope you will look after yourself and each other.
I am happier to share some hopeful news. Following the strong response to our International Women’s Day event in March, we are launching the Australian-American Women’s Leadership Circle. The AAWLC will be a series of conversations, mentoring connections, and practical sessions for women building careers, businesses, and networks across both countries. We want the series to reflect what you need, so we are asking for your input now. Please join us on November 17th for breakfast to share your thoughts and help us shape the future events, sign up here.
Dawn
On behalf of the AACC Board

THE AUSSIE DOLLOR VS US DOLLAR - ARE YOU MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR MONEY?
|
|
|
For Australians living, investing or doing business in the US, the AUD/USD exchange rate can make a significant difference to the cost of moving money internationally.
With interest rate expectations, economic data and global market sentiment influencing both currencies, timing your transfers can be just as important as the rate you receive.
Whether you're transferring funds from Australia, purchasing US property or managing cross-border business payments, having a currency strategy can help protect your bottom line.
Currencies Direct helps individuals and businesses navigate currency markets with competitive rates, expert guidance and tailored transfer solutions.

AUSSIES IN THE USA: READ THIS BEFORE YOU LODGE

Partner visas now cost $11,710, up from $9,365. The government has deprioritised offshore applications, so expect a long wait of up to 24 months. The Department also requires stronger evidence.
Planning to bring your partner in on a visitor visa and apply onshore? The government has announced it will stop visitor visas from being used as a pathway to an onshore partner visa by inserting condition 8503 (No Further Stay).
Permanent resident coming home? Check your VEVO now. If your travel facility expires while you are overseas, you must be granted a Resident Return Visa (RRV) before returning to Australia. Fees have jumped from $490 to $1,475.
